Mike Wexler has been teaching drum and percussion lessons since 2001, currently offering instruction out of his home studio in Quakertown, PA. Accepting all levels of students from beginner to advanced, Mike has a passion for passing along his knowledge and experience in music with others looking to learn and grow. He is fluent in all styles of music, from rock to jazz on the drum set as well as rudimental and marching percussion to concert and orchestral music.
Each lesson is geared to the individual student based upon their current skill level, goals, and desires. Beginners will start out learning the basics from proper technique of holding the sticks, rudiments, reading, and various styles of music. From there, students can begin working on learning specific songs, delving deeper into specific musical styles, or whatever other aspect of drums and percussion they wish to pursue.
Students who have studied with Mike have successfully auditioned for their respective jazz bands at schools including Quakertown High School, Strayer Middle School, Milford Middle School, Pennridge South Middle School, and The Perkiomen School, as well as being selected to perform with the Pennsylvania Music Educator Association's annual district, regional, and state band and orchestra festivals. Some have also gone on to perform with drum corps ensembles such as the Hawthorne Caballeros and Matrix Indoor Percussion Ensemble. Students have been accepted to and/or attended college music programs such as Berklee College of Music in Boston, West Chester University in West Chester, PA, and Drexel University in Philadelphia.
In addition to one-on-one private lessons, Mike is also available to teach group lessons and master classes.
